Go to Ian Howell @ fiesta frenzy matey, he built a sweet engine for my mate's ERST, never caused him any aggro at all over the 2 years and 25,000 mils he did in it.

He's a proper nice chap too.

Not too sure if he's miles and miles from you in Lincoln, but definitely have a chat with him.

Turbo Hansen,

He gave Ian a Donor 2.0 16v Zetec, with some 16v Calibra (XE engine) pistons and rings, and his old CVH head,
It was ported and polished and fitted with new Exhaust valves ( cambelt died), and it was all built up for 1,500 GBP.
He already had a fresh turbo, a piper T2 cam and vernier, paddle clutch a pace intercooler, and mongoose stainless.
It runs 14 psi, about the limit for the fuelling he reckons, and delivers lovely power, nice and strong from low down.

Rate it highly

With cossie mnagement, and a proper bottom end, I would have thought that is well achievable!!

I would try and keep the 16v head too if poss.

Nice top end power too!

Good luck my good man

A rebuild from Ian Howell if he supplies everything is 2 grand.
Jon - How much roughly do bsw charge?

330bhp is alot to expect I would say at least 300 with T34 and lots of boost. I think Alex spikes at 20 and holds 18 if I remember tight but he has plans:rsg:

Hansen try giving Jamie @ Jamsporta ring about his 1900 convesions coz his 1.9 is very very powerful and runs 13.2. Jamsport - 01604 755 529

330bhp is acheivable, just need the right amount of boost on the right turbo, obviously everything else needs to be strong enough to take it.

drop mark an e-mail

BSWMotorsport@aol.com

he'll be able to give you prices.

Drive the car in, old engine out, new one in, Drive out is about 2k + pistons. Obviously this is with standard internals, so add steel rods onto that too. Supply engine I guess would be less.

Turbo hansen,

Ian Howell recommends the user of the Vaux mahle pistons, and told me that good second hand ones are fine for the job.
I think my mate gave 50 GBp for soemof these.
Rings were about the same price.
Forged pistons and rings for 100 GBP

I don't think you would need a steel crank, as I'm told that the Zetec crank is more than strong enough.

Ported head needed for that sort of power, and I'm told that std cams are up to ther job too.

Speak to Ian for your requirements

Hi fella,

My mate was told that a pre 97 one was best, as they used hydraulic tappets, and stronger pistons - not you would be using them anyway!!

You will also need a 1.8 escort (of the same year) sump, oil pump and pick up pipe, as the mondeo ones have the deep side of the sump in the way of your downpipe.

Ian can supply all this tho

I hope this helps

Mate,

It will definitely be more powerful, but I would have thought that, as good as your head and cam are, they may be the restriction in you reaching 330 ish.

My guess is that you would need a lot of boost to reach that kind of level?? I may be wrong tho!!

For a cossie to run 330 bhp, 24- 26 psi is needed, so with a 16v head, on the 2.1 Zetec, and that sort of boost, you would be on the right lines for that sort of power.

I know there are some crazy figures from CVH's, but the owners / tuners have spent foirtunes on getting them there!!

I have the Calibra Turbo pistons in mine but if you can get hold of a set use the RS200 pistons machined.

Standard cam is vvank, Karl @ NMS does a proper one for the 2.1zvh, I get boost on my T34 at idle (almost) and it will rev higher too.

Crank is fine, but deffo steels rods. I reckon you'd be wanting 0.63housing for that power.

JON ERST2,

All 16v Xe vaux 's have forged pistons, so turbo ones aren't needed specifically.

I was referring to the Zetec cams, they are ok for 300+, as duration is obviously set for N/A.

Std CVH cam, no comment!!

I agrre on the turbine housing tho, .63 definitely needed!!

Regards

Weeksy

Blimey that sounds like a rocket ship already!! that must be very close to 300bhp as it is with that kind of spec, awesome!! Might be worth going the hole hog for 16 valve Zetec from Ian Howells, there is a guy who had a full Zetec engine from Ian for a FRST that could do very low 13 second runs all day long (Paul Ripley, maybe? can't remember!) I think a ZVH as good as they are will be hard pushed to make a massive improvement on that unless the original is worn out? Respect mate, awesome

just to probe the 16v route further..??

does the zetec head need any mods to run turbo power say of around 18 - 29 psi boost, i know all about the manifold side o things just wondering about the valves taking that kinda stick.???

Hi mate,

I think all is ok up to about 20ish psi on the stock 16v head, but from then on, the ports really need opening up, to let it breathe, and hold good boost at righer rpm.

Valves are ok until silly siully power, and cams etcx ok fo up to the 280 - 300 bhp mark.

To use the CVH head on the Zetec bottom end, the head needds some welding on the front edge, to ensure gasket bite.

Not really sure about that one, but it seems to work well

Hardest bit I believe is sorting the management.

Worth it tho.
2.1 16v turbo, in escort / fezzie!!

should be fine with the management as i will be using festa efi turbo stuff until the moneis there for some after market stuff

just cant decide between 16v or zvh at the mo..

i aint looking for 400+bhp if you know wot i mean just a good all round track day performer, i dont use the car every day but dont want it too lumpy, plus i am doing most of the work my self and if there aint much work between the two conversions i may aswell have 16 valves eh?

Jon - I have said on several occasions now that my comment was not aimed at you, it was a general comment...what more do you want? You choose to come back and edge me on saying that I should of said it better etc after I have given you the answer to your questiion. If you don't like the way I word things then in future don't ask me any questions. I haven't got or never had anything against you, with all due respect I don't have time for this or making any enemies on the net.

Thanks - Sunny.
