Default KW Electronic Suspension

I was just wondering if any of you fellas would be interested in this kit if KW was to produce it for the MK2 RS Focus.
I emailed KW bosses to enquire if they would be making it. They have stated that there would need to be enough interest from RS Focus owners for them to produce it. This interest also includes the rest of Europe not just the UK.
They have said if there was enough interest then they would develop it. They say that from developing and testing to it being available would be around six months.
The kit will cost approx 2400 all in. Which I think is very reasonable considering Ohlins coilover kit will cost that when released and thats just a straight forward kit.
So are you interested?
The big news for me is KWs development of EDC suspension.(Electronic damping control). Same idea as on BMW etc. This kit is just seriously fantastic.
It sort of en-cooparates all of their suspension into one. You get height adjustable coilovers which look brilliant. You then get their electronic equipment with it, to deal with three setting which are Comfort, Sport and Sports plus. You will have a button in the car which you can press for each setting. The button glows different colours depending on settings,

All very normal you might think. However, the best bit about this kit is it also has wifi installed in it. So for instance if you have an iPhone, you get in the package a free application. With that application and using your iPhone you can dial in your preferred setting into your suspension via wifi and your phone. Amazing.
Also the app allows you to dial in precise setting between front and rear in percentage. i.e. 68% firmness front and 27% firmness rear.

It gets better. Imagine this. Your mate goes to the Nurnbergring with his RS fitted with this kit. He spends several hours experimenting with setting. He finds the perfect settings. He can store them on his app on his iPhone or other compatible device, He then has a mega time at the ring. You then decide to go over. You can simple ask your mate to send his settings to your iPhone. You store his settings on your iPhone and drive over to the ring in comfort mode. On arrival you simple send his settings via wifi to your suspension and off you go. You store loads of setting on your app. So if you visit 5 different tracks every year to simple just choose your stored setting for that track and off you go. No messing with spanners and getting dirty. You don't even have to get out of your car. Absolutely fantastic idea.
Don't say it will never happen. It already has. KW are ready to supply VW and I think Audi with kits. Then its onto Porsche. They state if there is enough interest in the MK2 RS Focus world they will make the kits for us. So there you go. High light of the day for me. I just love really clever ideas. Have a look at their website its all on there including video's

You can see in these photos, the coilover, Electronic unit (the larger one) and the wifi unit and also the iPhone to control it.

This is the email I received today from KW

Hi Mike,

Our Managing Director has returned from the factory and has given me an update on the Electronic suspension.

The technical team have scheduled the current application lists to be finished by the end of April. From this date they are happy to commence with any DDC ECU project as long as a commitment for numbers is made. To make any project viable we have to commit to 20 kits. The technical director does not think that there will be a problem in creating a kit for the Ford Focus RS MK2 as the car is still quite fresh in his mind.

The technical director does not think that there has been interest from any other part of the world regarding DDC ECU for the RS so the decision will have to come from KW UK.

Can you give me any feedback from the forums regarding DDC ECU?

Look forward to your reply.

Best Regards

Look at it at the nec and it's looks a good idea but don't think I will swap my bilstein coilovers for it but like the idea of it

I think it's a great idea, if I had the money I'd have a set fitted to mine plus another bonus is you could be doing a track day with your mate, who happens to have the same car and suspension as you, then as your racing round get your passenger to alter your mates suspension setting to comfort via your iPhone lol

What a superb thread...well done Sir !

I too was blown away with this product...it is utterly superb and of the highest quality.

I am happy with what 4 the V3's offer and at this time would not want to wait in the hope these were produced....on the other hand if in a couple of years I've run out of things to upgrade, I would seriously add them to my wish list.

As I will probably be changing the suspension on my car later this year I am definitely interested in these as opposed to v3's.

Fools rush in, there's a song there somewhere........I'm like you Ilan no rush to change over to coilovers as my Eibach spring are just fine and quite new still. But I have the money for a set of these if and when they arrive on the shelf. Hope we can generate enough interest from other members to get the numbers up so as KW can start production of them.

Might be a stupid question... But is it possible to change the height of the dampers with the button or app too? If you lower the car for instance, and then you get to a point in the road where you need more clearance. (to not damage the car) Would it be possible to change the height setting from the inside of the car?

Same here Mike it looks like a fantastic upgrade to the RS but I'm afraid it all comes down to a cash shortage. Hope you get 20 guy's interested then at least if the cash becomes available I will know its out there

Does sound and look fantastic Mike, a bit out of my 'zone' if you like (far too complicated for my needs ).

Cheers for showing though, amazing what sort of products are being released nowadays.

Hi Mike,

I have relayed this very interesting information on a serious French FRS Mk2 dedicated forum. If I have positive feedbacks, I will report here, hoping that it will add grist to the mill.

Hi Mike,

there are already 3 persons very interested in this kit on the French forum. Other might be interested too, but they need to know if the base of the dampers of this KW DDC ECU is the Clubsport or the V3 version... Do you have any idea about this, mate?
