Well I feel much the same as Ilan and after the Cumbria show, I made the decision to look at selling the Focus and the Clio and going back to one car. A car that I can use daily, is reasonably quick with good handling and proper brakes. Is cheaper to insure than the Focus and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.
Hey we'll miss the Focus and miss all our friends, but these seem to be falling away, so perhaps it is time to move on. So to everyone that we know and those that we don't we will miss you. I will still keep an eye on the Forum, and if anyone wants any bits or thermostat housings I still have a few left. Car went tonight, so feel a little sad. End of an erara |

Sad news. Times change I suppose I was lucky to have owned my mk1 at the time when the old faces were still around and banter was the norm on here. Seems a very long time ago now..

what did you guys have to drink at the cumbria show? you'll be going the megane rs way from what you say i guess. I was quite surprised with that car, it drives really well, but I rather push the mk2 home than drive a renault. you know where these are built mate? (guess!)

You will come back. . . . . .I had a break of a few years but then got back into an RS. I know what you mean about the shows though, nowhere near as good as they used to be. Remember when National Day was a big thing, not anymore.

Should have just kept the focus and used it ? As carnt see why not as most people do as I would rather have the focus over any Renault

Shows are just part of it, 5 or 6 years ago the laughs at the shows was reason enough to own a Mk1, I have very fond memories of the shows in 06, 07 especially as that's when there seemed to be the biggest and friendliest group of Mk1 owners. The shows today are poor by comparison, the old friends have mostly moved on or have been pushed away.
Also for me I really didn't use the car but I'm also lucky enough to be in a position where I can afford to go and try other things, why spend my time polishing and admiring a very nice Mk2 when I could try out a GT-R, I may only own one for a few months but at least I've done it and then when I'm old and Grey (like Ian ) I can buy a Renaultsport and pretend I'm young again ![]() Saying that, if in another year or so, a MK3 is announced I will no doubt have my name on the list, again just to know that I have owned and driven one and if it makes me feel like I did when I first owned the Mk1 all those years ago I will keep it until I feel the time has come to try something else. I do miss my Mk2 as I miss every car I have owned and spent time with but am I sorry its gone? No! I'm happy its gone to someone who is appreciating it. My search for the Mk2's replacement continues. |

Thanks for the comments, it's not just the show scene, lots of stuff, and I was not loving the car as much as I should.
I got a Clio 200 Cup a few months back, as my daily runner, and I have been so surprised by all the elements. The car itself was so much fun to drive, the ride was good out of the box, not bumpy or choppy, the seats and the seating position, are good, it is just such a fun car. Silly touches like auto locking, Brembos as standard, and basically a car as it should of left the factory. The sales team over at Benfield Newcastle couldn't be more helpful. The service department were fantastic. Different story to me taking the Focus up with a faulty air temp sensor. So it maybe French rubbish, but read the reviews, watch you tube, appears I have been living in a bubble for the last 50 years and there are other brands out there other than Ford, and believe me it has taken me a long time to see the light, all my clothes have the Ford logo in and my blood type is F O R D. I now own one of 10 Black Megane Trouphys in the country, the fastest front wheel drive car round the Nurburgring, and done on road tyres, with 5 seats, has a good ride, is fun to drive and will be used as a daily car. Some may say the 4 years servicing that comes free and the 4 years break down, the 4 years warranty, the cheaper insurance costs the better fuel consumption and the 158 mph top speed are not important, but hey ho, it's a proper hot hatch out the box, made by a foreign company, (like Fords are) I may live to regret my choice, time will tell, but for now I am going to give this a shot. The show scene will be different, but I am sure there will be like minded people that I can annoy, and forums I can cheese people off on. As I have always said this club has been very good, both myself and the misses have enjoyed ourselves over the years, and have made a lot of friends, just because my Jacket will have a different badge on, will not change this, and I will still follow the Ford scene. |

Nice car the trophy mate, that's exactly the one I tried and I was truly surprised by the chasis/suspension work. we took a few pics of both RS500/Trophy 'limited editions' together, I just need to dig those out. there are a lot of differences and a lot of similarities, and it's simply up to what the individual values in a car. to some it may be the 8:08 at the ring to others it may be the particular sound of the 5-pot turbo... etc etc etc
I'm not really into Ford or any other brand for that matter, all I know is that I've had a fair bunch of different brands and have had good, average and bad experiences, so it's really up to the particular model and unit, more than the brand imo. they're both great cars imo, and offer a lot for the money compared to some of the so called premium brands what you say about the clio, apart from the chasis/suspension work, has a lot to do with the much lower weight. my brother's got an old 'sporty' civic and oh my is it fun to go for a blast, good engine and well put together but mainly very very light and agile |

Cracking choice mate, don't think you'll be disappointed. The depreciation will make your eyes water though.
You won't get a better chassis / car that's more fun to drive in a hot hatch IMO. Ford just can't compete with Renault with that. I said it when I had my r26 that it was a better car than the mk1 Frs and the 250 chassis is better than the mk2 IMO. Good luck with it and don't forget the pics |

Nice one Ian, I am a big fan of the renaults. Sure they have their problems, but no more than what I have had with my Focus in the time I have had it. A fantastic car straight out of the box and I would have no trouble in owning one

I agree with what Ilan says that 06 07 08 where great years to be a part of the club, I know it comes and goes etc, and it's the new members which do keep it going..... But I am here nearly a year on coming back to RS ownership and I have done just 2000 miles, happy with my car, yes, gets used, sometimes, been to our club days, once, my time is now with my family, and that I enjoy far more. I had owned a Gordini RS 200 Clio last year, and it was a good daily drive with fun inside it, but it just was not me, and in the end I came back too. I say good luck to all who enjoy something different!

Getting used to it, different driving style required, it's more weighty than the Focus in fast corners, but as Dunc says you just nail it, car is getting better as the tyres settle in etc

That's not the one I have, I have the one that holds the record for the fastest front wheel drive car round the Nurburgring, not even the RS500 could beat it with 80 more bhp!!!

There's no offical time for the RS500 around the ring that I know of. As I said, have tried the trophy and it's a great car, but frankly I would never consider some time done at some track by some professional driver as part of the criteria for buying one car or another. I would be well over a minute off that 8:08 anyway, be it with a RS500, a trophy or even a GT-R.
